The latest evolution in Microsampling has changed the landscape of low-volume blood collection, for both preclinical and clinical investigations that require less invasive sampling procedures. Simple to implement, the collection technique is referred to as Volumetric Absorptive Microsampling (VAMS) and uses a novel device comprised of a hydrophilic polymeric substrate anchored to a plastic handle, manufactured by Neoteryx and marketed under the brand name Mitra® . Unlike traditional Dried Blood Spot (DBS) approaches, the Mitra® VAMS device is capable of collecting accurate volumes of blood (10, 20 or 30 µL) unbiased by the hematocrit (HCT) level, an analytical breakthrough for drug quantitation.
